Ekincioglu, M. (speaker), 2021, “Public Health and Health Technologies in Housing for the Post-Pandemic World”, online and English lecture, the Medipol University-Department of Architecture, May 27th.

.
As our COVID-19 pandemic experience has clearly revealed, housing is one of leading social determinants of personal and public health; and (health) technology has become an inseparable part of this subject. In recent times, the impact of housing on (public and personal) health (and its relation to technological opportunities) is now being widely considered by architecture (design) education, architecture (design) practice and the profession. In light of this, essential architectural (design) characteristics of healthy housing demands much more (scientific) attention more than ever before; from its healthy indoor settings, air quality, natural and mechanical ventilation to its connections with outdoor spaces, nearby houses, neighbors, nature, etc. As the core of architecture, architecture (design) education has been currently seeking to better understand what a healthy house means in relation to its user(s)' physical, social, psychological, mental wellbeing from his/her (their) daily life, work from home (WFH) activities, remote education/learning, socializing with others.
.
On May 27th, I was incredibly pleased to connect with Dr. Pelin Karacar, Head of Interior Architecture Department at Medipol University (*), and her brilliant architecture students. With “103” attendees, we came together online, and I cannot thank enough for her and her assistants' valuable time and effort to make this lecture happen.
.
On my online talk, I emphasized and elaborated the following topics and subjects in relation to personal/public health in housing settings:
.
1.Recent research studies, reports and surveys on housing prepared by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), one of the oldest and leading organizations in the architecture profession;
.
(Such as the AIA-Safety Health Strategies for Multifamily Houses; Strategies for Safer Living Communities; the AIA-home design trends 2020, etc.);

..
2. Some significant recent research projects, topics and knowledge resources on public health, housing and (health) technology;
.
(Such as scientific research projects conducted b y MIT scientists and the Harvard University, School of Public Health, etc. on healthy indoor settings, healthy housing design strategies, telemedicine at home, data science and machine learning to examine current unhealthy conditions of housing and how to rehabilitate its problematic factors for more healthy living environments for people, etc.);
.
.
3. Some leading research reports, surveys and knowledge resources on air quality at home as one of the vital issues during COVID-19;
.
(Such as recent reports, surveys and residential guidances by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers [ASHRAE] for air quality at home; etc.)
.
.
4. Knowledge resources by "Centers for Disease Control and Prevention" (1946-present) (one of the leading institutions on public health in the US) on health strategies for housing settings, in particular, to prevent or reduce the transmission and spread of COVID-19, and any infectious disease.
.
(Such as reports, research studies and guidance released by CDC for living in a close quarters and in a shared housing, household checklist, etc. in order to be able to keep COVID-19 outside home)
