On My Architecture, Interior, Landscape and Urban Photography
.
.
Since the first year of my architectural design education, it has been an essential part of my architecture to take architecture and design-centered photographs to improve my visual literacy and creative design thinking. I have taken several courses and participated in several seminars on photography. My lens aims to reflect creative and noteworthy design characteristics of the tectonic and structural solutions, facades, forms, interior design and interior spatial organizations of architecture buildings along with their integration into their built environments, their interior-exterior connections, landscape design, building and interior design materials and details in a clear way. Recently, my focal points are architectural buildings, interior and landscape design projects with climate responsive and inclusive strategies. In addition, I also value inclusive and diverse content development of “visual knowledge resources” and "digital image archives" on design-centered disciplines to support studies and design projects by learning, teaching, teaching and professional communities in architecture, interior, landscape, urban design, etc.
.
In architecture, some of my favorite photographers are Ezra Stoller (1915-2004) whose images define Mid-Century Modernism as a creative and aesthetic art form with clarity, in particular architectural structures and compositions designed by Eero Saarinen, Mies van der Rohe and SOM; Balthazar Korab (1926–2013) with his outstanding architectural and landscape photographs documenting some iconic examples of modern architecture; Julius Shulman (1910-2009) for his iconic shots of California Mid-century modern and some remarkable structures designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Charles Eames, Richard Neutra and Hélène Binet (1959-present) whose architectural photographs zoom in some hiding parts of a space to reveal new qualities instead of grand structures and well-known with her shots of some pioneering contemporary architects, such as Zaha Hadid, Peter Zumthor and Daniel Libeskind. In addition, recently, with a great interest, I have been reading on Harold "Doc" Edgerton and his innovative techniques in photography.
.
In addition to architecture, Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004), a French humanist photographer and a master of candid photography and Ara Güler (1928-2018), “the Eye of Istanbul” and an internationally known photographer are some pioneering lens for me.
.
My comprehensive collection mostly includes digital, high quality photographs from modern and contemporary architecture, interior and landscape design within and around Cambridge, MA, Boston and the East Coast. I was also an applicant for SAHARA (*) Associate Editor in 2023.
